Black Friday has just passed us by, but the holiday shopping season is in full swing. Parking lots are filling up, stores are advertising enticing deals, and gifts will eventually be wrapped and placed under the Christmas tree to be opened. And we like to think it will be easy to find the best gifts for family and friends, but the reality is that it can be a little harder than we’d like it to be. But never fear, the Matti D stylists are here to make your job much, much easier. We’ve put our heads together to craft our top three points for the ultimate gift-giving guide. Check them out.
Tip #1: Big doesn’t mean better. Going all out and finding something big and voluminous may seem like the way to show someone you care or that you love them a lot, but you don’t need to break the bank to show those same emotions. Thoughtful, small gifts can show the same amount of care, and be easy to carry with you if you’re traveling. One idea is a type of perfume, oil, or lotion. There’s an overabundance of perfumes out there made by every brand and celebrity under the sun, but there are lots of up-and-coming groups making delicious scents. They can take the form as oils (roller-balls are the best!), or even as light lotions that are infused with the same scent as the perfumes. If you’re going to go the candle route (which, if you’re asking us, is a little boring), at least go for one with an interesting scent and an even more interesting container. Ones that have unique artwork or photography can be a great coffee table addition or dinner table mood-maker.
If you’re not feeling either of those, and you know the person well that you’re shopping for, try a striking piece of jewelry (if they wear it). Bracelets are easy enough to pair with any outfit, and grabbing a piece in a fresh color and with metallic details can be the perfect feature for the fashionista in your family.

For the daring, runway-ready fashion friend in your life, going big may be a good route. Think big, as in finding a statement piece they can wear on a variety of occasions. Those with a daring sense of style and a willingness to try new things can be the most fun to shop for during the holidays, and we suggest you take inspiration from the top fashion houses before you head out. For the classy, sophisticated woman looking to wear something as iconic as them, check out Chanel’s tweed coats. They’re pretty much the definition of iconic, right? They come in a variety of colors and are the perfect mix of modern and elegance. For the woman who means business but who isn’t too flashy, follow the suit of Saint Laurent and their leather jackets. Lux fabrics in perfect black will pair well with anything and never go out of style. And for the woman who is fabulous and definitely knows it, channel the same stylish energy as the fur coats shown at Givenchy. While they may not be a must here in sunny San Diego, they can certainly be a great addition to any closet.

Our last tip: going for the comfy-cozy matching set is a win, no matter what. Now, we aren’t talking the tacky matching pajama sets from Target or Forever 21, we’re talking the fashion-forward sets to be worn around the house as well as out and about. For the activewear and athleisure junkie, check out Off-White’s simple black logo set. Available with pants or a skirt, these sets can be worn lounging around the house or with their favorite denim jacket or cozy fur coat over it. For the comfort-over-anything girl, loose but quality sweatpants and a matching long sleeve can be the way to go. If you’re looking this way, we’d tell you to avoid low quality fabrics! The better quality it is, the more put-together you’ll look, instead of the “I just woke up” look we all dread. For the street-style and quality fabric lover, we’d go for a matching set that will double as a casual, going-out look. A light color that isn’t too bold but not quite a neutral can be a fun way to go.

We are well into the holiday season now, and we’ve already listened to entirely too much Christmas music. But our gift lists are getting made, our inboxes are filling up with deals and sales, and there are only so many times we can ask our friends and family what they want for the holidays before we actually have to go and find something. We are in the same situation as you. But there are a few unique ideas and tips that we’ve discovered and wanted to share with you. We hope they make your trips to the mall a little less stressful and a little more holiday-cheer filled.
