Walking Billboards: The LogoMania Trend

Logos have gone from tacky to top-notch. Not long ago they were a dated print, but now they are all the buzz. Street style stars and celebs alike are piling on any logo-printed piece they can find.  Louis Vuitton and their Monogram are challenged by the Gucci ‘double G’ print, Fendi’s matching F’s, and Balenciaga’s name printed pretty much everywhere and on everything. These recognizable features are a brand’s premiere marketing strategy – people notice it, and know exactly what brand it is – all without saying a word. The wearer is the advertiser and model all rolled into one. Read on to find out our favorite logo pieces and how to wear them.

First up: the bags at Gucci. The brand’s handbags and belt bags have taken off, and every single one of them is slapped with either their classic print and metal G’s or their namesake. You can grab a cross body with a little bulk, a deep blue bag with a misspelled name (a jab at the rampant counterfeit market for luxury goods), or a chic belt bag that is both functional and fashion-forward. The Gucci logo used to read as a tired symbol, but has now been reinvented to be a massive show of status. Each of these bags can be worn as an everyday purse – obviously depending on how much you carry with you – or can fit for special occasions. Wear them with your most fancy dress or your favorite worn jeans. Either way, everyone will know where that gorgeous bag came from.

Next is the Logo Tee. Now, we could do a whole post about the logo tee, and how pretty much every brand has taken a shirt, smacked their name on it and sold it for entirely too much money. But the simple fact is this: they sell, and they sell well! At Versace, we got a minimalist take on this, but also some very fun matching sets with it. T-shirts bore the brand’s iconic name in a retro font, and they were tucked into matching pants with tinted sunglasses and a small purse to top it off. The monochromatic look was a hit, and several celebrities have been spotted sporting the head-to-toe outfit. The tees are an easy way to work a luxury name into your everyday wear. Throw them on with denim or go more professional with some tapered trousers and a blazer. If you aren’t feeling Versace’s take on this, brands like Gucci, Balenciaga, Adidas, and Tommy Hilfiger have all released their own.

Last is the Logo sweater or jacket. We found our favorites at Fendi, in fluffy sweaters that were both sporty and chic. A few of the sweaters were longer, some shorter, but all were layered with jackets and textured bottoms. This wasn’t your lounge sweater with sweatpants – no, this was one paired with tartan skirts and woven blazers. This isn’t to say you can’t wear them at home when you’re just relaxing, but it’s meant to highlight their versatility. Take an outfit from slouchy to chic with a logo sweater that keeps you warm and shows off your fashionable side at the same time. Fendi showed them off in blacks and whites, meaning they pair well with a lot of things. Find the mix between comfy and chic. With these pieces, it isn’t too hard.

Logos are no longer the cringe-worthy and gaudy thing they were in the past. They are probably one of the biggest trends at the moment, and show no signs of backing down any time soon. They have found their homes on some of the most iconic items, bearing the most iconic names. Everything from pants to handbags to phone cases have shown the name of a great fashion house. You can go for the expensive pieces like we talked about, but there is also a mass of affordable products out there. One thing is true regardless of the price tag: everyone will know what brand it is - and that’s not such bad thing anymore.
