All that glitters is gold, right? Well, we beg to differ. Just because fall draws in the dreary skies and cloudy weather doesn’t mean our fashion has to match. So, kick it up a notch with silver sequins and high gloss shine. Silver has got a lot of star power, and on the runways it brought the wattage on full power. Dresses dripped in head-to-toe sequins, and both shirts and pants were drenched in glittery goodness. Adding a bit of sheen to your outfit is the perfect way to up your fashion game with only a little effort. Read on to find out how.

Off-White served up a few spectacular show-stopping looks on the runway. Creative director, Virgil Abloh’s tendency to mix street-wear inspirations with classic styles came through in his looks. A dress, top, and skirt were given the metal treatment and were covered in elongated sequins. The standout is obviously the dress – a one-shouldered masterpiece completed with dark shades and knee-high boots. The dressy nature of the dress was offset by clean, structured pieces that balanced out the intensity of the silver piece. When constructing your own outfits, try for the same balance. You don’t want to look overdressed (or underdressed, for that matter) for an occasion. But either way, any glittering silver style is a welcome wake-up call for anyone’s wardrobe.

The versatility of a shiny silver was put on display at Alberta Ferretti, where the metallic color offered it’s power through brocade pants, hefty mini dresses, and floor length gowns. Tapered trousers had a blue, purple, and silver brocade pattern on them, and paired well with a basic black tee and bomber jacket. Try pants like these with more basic tops – think minimalist graphic tees or a crisp white button down – rather than anything that may take attention away from the details. For a fancier occasion (the holidays are coming up soon!), take inspiration from the metal-plated mini dress. Completed simply with black tights and tassel-adorned heels, the look was New Year’s Eve party or Christmas dinner ready. The shininess of the dress is so breathtaking that any other distracting piece would ruin the whole outfit. So whether you’re headed to a fancy gala or party, or simply heading out to a fashionable lunch with your fashionable friends, Alberta Ferretti has got you covered.

Spanish and French designer Paco Rabanne let silver take center stage as he opened his show with more than ten glittery looks. Models walked down the runway with effortlessly undone locks and fresh-faced makeup, all of which played incredibly off of the chain-mail and mesh-inspired looks. The pieces were heightened by the presence of the metallic substance, and many times these transparent overlays were stacked on simple white button-ups or black camisoles. The genius was in the details, here. When you find something as intricate and show-stopping as something like these pieces, go easy on the rest of the look. Pull it on over your favorite slip dress, or even just layer with a same-length skirt and a great top. The hard work is done for you with these, so treat them well.

We’ve mentioned the prevalence of futuristic fashion on the recent runways, and this fits right in with that. Thousand-watt dresses and pushing up against gilded coats and shirts, with their shine and metallic nature making them fit for the most fabulously fashionable space mission ever. But their luxurious feel doesn’t make them only for special occasions. Don’t be afraid to shine bright whenever and wherever you want to.
