Yes, blazers are hot for Spring/Summer 2018, but suits are too - those of the relaxed and street style-ready kind. Most weren’t designed for the office with creations of loose, relaxed silhouettes, oversized dimensions, a myriad of colors and fabrics like denim and corduroy.

Relaxed, Easy to Wear Suits

Relaxed, comfortable suiting is stealing the show with fabulous feeling material like lightweight wool blends and linen. There was a lot of expert tailoring, including menswear references translated for womenswear. We also noticed plenty of fluidity achieved via extra long sleeves and suits styled beneath light, streamlined trench coats effortlessly cascading along. This was a huge theme at Céline - along with oversized looks and some featured magnificently sizable shoulders.

Vacation looks weren’t forgotten as Ralph Lauren presented easy island getaway suiting in holiday hues and stripes. Bonus points for wearing a completely coordinated 3-piece look!

The suits of Spring/Summer 2018 are definitely a reinterpretation of power suits of the 80’s and more minimal styles from the 90’s. These are suits as comfortable as pajamas that still manage to convey power, confidence and strength. And most defy decades and seasons, allowing you to wear them for years to reinvent them with styling.

Keep the accessories to a minimum. Silver statement earrings with a vintage feel to them work great and more relaxed silhouettes look best with flat sandals or block-heeled shoes. Hold your handbag beneath your arm or opt for a mini bag to preserve the look.

Camera-Ready Combinations

On the runways of Chanel, we saw models sporting tweed from head to toe. It’s a common sight for the fashion house, but this time was different. The collection was geared towards a younger Chanel client with frayed hems, candy-colored threads, modest shorts paired with bare midriffs and other interesting to wear styles that aren’t necessarily appropriate for traditional day suit settings. Most women today lead totally different lifestyles than during the heyday of ladies who lunch and Karl Lagerfeld was perceptive enough to use new style codes to reinvent them for 2018.

You’ll also discover plenty of precision tailored suits in funky materials or prints like those seen on the catwalks at Chloé. These suits are good for day or night and offer a Parisian 70’s kind of vibe.

Other photo perfect suits feature artful, inventive shapes; monochromatic styles in pastels are also a hit, including styles by Rejina Pyo and Gucci.

Check Mate

It’s the year of the check - this pattern is everywhere and showing up in different colors and sizes. We love them on blazers paired with denim skirts just as much as we do for suits checked from head to toe. A pop of color is always welcome so if checks with muted colors feel too serious, try wearing a brightly colored top underneath and statement, embellished accessories.

Whether your suit inspiration comes from Lauren Hutton, Tilda Swinton or Charlotte Rampling, the right fit and carrying yourself with confidence are key.
