Bring in the Brights

We’re used to the infusion of color our closets typically get come spring, but 2018 will be different. Things are brightening up - and in a very big way.
The world’s most desirable designers have made it known that spring and summer will be punctuated with clothes and accessories featuring punchy pops of pigments. The runways showed off a parade of violets, tomato reds, bright pinks, striking daffodil yellows (a color that most often appeared on dresses) and more.
The object is to have fun. If you’re comfortable with all-over brights, try pairing prints of various different colors. Picture something along the lines of the new retro revival pieces styled at Versace in tribute to Gianni’s era at the house. You’ll feel the 80’s influence, but this trend is more like the decade of excess meets Art Basel… an artful play on color. When you want to skip the prints, let colorful stripes add interest for a dynamic entrance for just about any occasion. Energize Sunday brunch or a chic weekend getaway with passion-filled colors and plenty of style.
Monochromatic statements are also fabulous as you wear a single bright color from head to toe. We especially love how the strong hued, figure-skimming dresses of the season look when worn with knee-high or calf-length boots. These vivid, solid colored garments in simple silhouettes create an entirely new impact.
Not ready for so much attention? Tone it down by reserving the trend for stylish separates - a shoe that pops, a pair of shorts or a sweater saturated in color. Bright faux furs are also wonderful and they’ve been presented in just about every color of the rainbow from designers like Shrimps. As an alternative, you can look to the season’s unique style codes. We love the concept of wearing an ultra feminine summer dress - in a brilliant hue - over a pair of sleek and comfortable cropped jeans.

Fashion has fallen for brights… we’ve even seen the trend in presentations by houses you wouldn’t associate with bright colors, like Christian Dior. And there are just so many ways to wear the look. Try balancing intense hues with clear accessories for a mixed media kind of approach to dressing. But even the clear accessories of the moment aren’t necessarily without color. Most notably, Chanel created a bevy of clear bags that bring images of candy to mind. Envision clear yet brightly colored backpacks, handbags and totes - iconic chain straps and all.

For nighttime, may we suggest sequins, sparkles and all things that shine? The colored variety of course. We can thank Halpern for today’s postmodern disco revival and these looks are even being worn by day.
The world is embracing the bold and the unique with more excitement than we’ve seen in a long time. We can’t help but think it has to do with the social media savviness of it all. Bright colors make for instantly attention-getting material in places like Instagram and Snapchat. Whatever the reason, we’re loving this moment in fashion. Wear your bright colors unapologetically and with feminine strength, confidence and pride!
